Emma Canil
Emma is the daughter of Brigid and Roy Canil. She is a dancer with Boswell Dance Academy and is a member of St. Thomas More’s Concert and Chamber choirs. Emma has been part of Boswell Dance Academy’s competition team, Royal City Youth Ballet and volunteers at the Holy Trinity Breakfast Program in downtown New Westminster. She has also helped her school’s concert choir receive the title of “best choir under the age of 16” in the Kiwanis Music Festival when she was in Grade Nine. Emma also enjoys skiing, reading and hiking on trails within BC, especially Whistler and also volunteers through various opportunities with her school. In her spare time she likes to be around her friends, have fun with her brothers and watch Netflix. After graduation, Emma plans to attend UBC and study business. She hopes to travel to many countries in the coming years.
Words to live by
by Emma Canil
No one is you and that is your power.”
Emma’s favourite show is Friends and her favourite movie is The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Her favourite song is “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen and her favourite book is Faithful by Alice Hoffman. Emma is inspired by Emma Watson because she charmed Emma’s own heart being her favourite childhood actor. Emma Watson is now a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, launched the HeForShe campaign, pursued an Ivy League education and is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. Emma’s most treasured keepsakes are her Broadway and ballet tickets and programs.
Emma’s favourite thing to do in the Royal City, besides the Hyack Festival, is spending time walking along Pier Park at the New Westminster Quay. Her proudest moment in her life so far is being on the Distinction Honour Roll at her school for her academics. If Emma could trade places with anyone it would be Donald Trump so she could change the gun regulation laws in the US. Emma believes she would make a good Hyack Ambassador because she would like to change her community for the better.
