Kate is the daughter of Ardyth Moorcroft and Mike Haberl, is in her senior year at New Westminster Secondary and participates in, and with, a variety of clubs and groups.  Kate is president of both the NWSS Gardening and Environment Clubs, member of NWSS Model UN, the Debate and Grad committees, and volunteers with Young Life, Youth Café at her church, Wyld Life and Interact.  She is a former Rotary Youth Exchange student where she spent a year in Spain and has also taken two humanitarian trips to Ecuador, where she assisted those communities and built schools.  In her spare time, she enjoys baking.

Kate is inspired by many people but especially Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. “She negotiated USMCA (the replacement of NAFTA) on behalf of Canada and exemplifies many of the qualities I feel are important.  In the face of tremendous pressure, she acted with grace and integrity.”

Kate’s most treasured keepsake is her journal from Spain because it chronicled her time there and has notes from all her friends.

Her proudest moment was when she found out she had been selected as the Rotary Youth Exchange student.

Kate’s favourite thing to do in the Royal City, besides the Hyack Festival, is going to Front Street with friends to visit the cute coffee shops, explore antique shops and just hang out.

If Kate could trade places with anyone it would be Queen Elizabeth because “she has lived a life so different from my own and she is an amazing woman and strong leader.”

Kate believes she would make a good Hyack Ambassador because she is confident and driven.  “I am very proud to be from New Westminster and it would be an honor.”

WORDS TO LIVE BY

“Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  …Love never fails.”
