Voted Best Annual Festival

One of the longest running premiere non-profit arts and cultural festivals in British Columbia has garnered another Readers’ Choice award.

The 47th Annual Hyack Festival has become an iconic local celebration, featuring multicultural activities for all ages, free live performances by well-known Vancouver-based Indie artists, great food, as well as the beloved Hyack International Parade.

Brunella Battista, Executive Director with the multiple award-winning Hyack Festival Association, credits the amazing pool of volunteers - from directors to event volunteers - who year after year, come and support this popular family event. She believes the success can also be traced to festival attendees’ interest on enduring themes such as being the Royal City, a place of significant history, and proud tradition of preserving heritage.

“In 2017, the brand new Hyack Float, its Theme and Team were awarded the International Award at the Daffodil Festival in Tacoma, Washington,” Brunella adds.

In addition, Hyack represents New Westminster in different communities throughout the province and the Pacific Northwest during parades and other events.

Another reason for its phenomenal appeal is that the association strives to keep the festival fresh. Brunella went on to say Hyack is truly invested in the community, so to that end they are inviting new partnerships with local stakeholders.

“We are also striving to become more accessible online and ensuring that residents know that the Hyack Festival Association is inclusive and embracing of our diverse population,” Brunella explains. “Look out for updates on our new activities and events at hyackfestival.com or on Facebook.”
